Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds.

Book Week has brought children and books together across Australia annually since 1945 (WOW!) and it NEVER disappoints – especially at Spencer Park Primary School.  This year the theme was Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds. We have enjoyed a full week of celebratory activities that highlighted the importance of reading and connecting with books.

We were exceptionally fortunate to have Elaine Forrestal in our school for two days delivering interactive and engaging sessions. Ms Forrestal is a West Australian author whose work has been published in Australia, the UK and America.  Ms Forrestal shared her own stories with our staff and students in our library and then invited them to act out/perform parts of the story. Have a look at our photos, what a great experience!

To kickstart each school morning we had our fabulous staff members read a book to our classes over the school PA system. The selection of books included:

  • The Wildest Book Week Ever – read by Mr Luscombe
  • Brave-Bottomed Wombat – read by Mrs Mackenzie
  • Wait! – Read by Old Mother Hubbard
  • A Human for Kingsley – Mrs Harris-Moroney

The hotly contested ‘Decorate Your Classroom Door’ competition was a return feature of our Book Week activities. To add an extra incentive, every student from the class with the ‘winning’ door (and corridor and windows etc.) were in the running to win a golden book swap ticket from the library. Judging took place on Thursday morning by our resident art critics extraordinaire who announced the winner of the 2021 Book Week Decorate Your Classroom Door competition was…drumroll…..Ms Reading’s Room 3!
