Climate science incursion

On Friday 27th May, students and staff at Spencer Park were so lucky to have a visit from a climate scientist, who was in Albany to coincide with the return of world record breaker solo sailor Lisa Blair. Marji Puotinen is a research scientist who mainly focuses on coral reefs and the impact the warming climate is having upon them. She has also been heavily involved with Lisa Blair in her world record adventure and has been interested the water samples and temperatures she was recording daily on her voyage.

Marji truly engaged with our students dressing up in a world costume and together with her twin sons in a dinosaur and shark costume, they proceeded to share the message of how a changing climate can have some major negative consequences. Her message was powerful and got the kids to think about the little things we can all do to help protect our planet.
