Friday Cooking – Pumpkin Soup

Mmmmmm!! Did you smell that delicious aroma wafting through the school on Friday afternoon? We did! It was Mrs Kowald’s students cooking up a PUMPKIN SOUP storm. This term, the students from Room 8 will spend Friday afternoons immersed in preparing and creating delicious meals to share as a class.

To start, the students split up into small groups and rotated through the kitchen learning the essentials about kitchen safety and food preparation.  After washing their hands they observed Ms Vaz demonstrate the correct techniques for each kitchen work station. With all of their intriguing questions answered, the students peeled, sliced and diced up fresh vegetables including:

  • pumpkins,
  • potatoes,
  • celery,
  • garlic,
  • carrot and
  • eye watering onions.

Of course no soup is complete without fresh herbs so for this soup, they added in some rosemary, parsley and marjoram. To serve, the students prepared fresh garlic bread which complimented the pumpkin soup perfectly. Click here to see our photos and stay tuned for some student feedback on their cooking experience.
