Weekly Wind Up

Welcome to Spencer Park Primary School‘s Weekly Wind Up where we celebrate the week and share what’s been happening at school.

It’s Spellademic

Congratulations to the following students who participated in the Albany Spelling Championship on Thursday, 10 September:

Year 5/6 Team 1: Portia (Y5), Amelia (Y5), Venja (Y6) and Lily-Anne (Y6). Team 2: Heath (Y5), Ziggy (Y6), Alexia (Y5).
Year 3/4 Team 1: Sophia (Y3), Esther (Y4), Charlotte (Y4).  Team 2: Vela (Y3), Anima (Y4), Evie (Y4).

Our students had to correctly spell words as a team and then identify different word meanings. The competition included four other schools across the Albany area as well as Cranbrook PS.

The competition was very close throughout the day with a tie breaker required to determine a winner for the Y3/4 competition and only one point separating 1st and 2nd place in the Y5/6  competition. Our Y3/4 teams came first (team 1) and fourth and our Y5/6 teams came third (team 2) and fifth.

A huge thank you to Mrs Moreton for her coordination and hard work throughout the day.

Why not take a look at some photos from the competition?

Spencer Park Education Support Centre Assembly

Thanks to Spencer Park Education Support Centre for putting on a fantastic assembly this morning, Friday, 11 September, and congratulations to all of your students for practising and participating.  We really enjoyed the Welcome to Country, signing the National Anthem and your drumming item.  Another highlight was boot scooting, where we all had a chance to stand up and join in.

Curious Minds, Wild Creatures: Writing from Room 3

Room 3 are currently working on some informational text pieces based their Curious Creatures that they created for book week.

Read some cleverly written descriptions of creatures such as the Temma-Tex, Swimming Pig, Goaterpenguin and Eltigerphant.

Scientific Students Celebrate Science Week

To celebrate Science Week, the Year 5/6 students in Room 9 did a range of experiments, including bouncing eggs, rainbow milk and dancing raisins.

The ‘sweetest’ experiment of them all, however, was making ice-cream without a freezer! We combined the ice-cream ingredients then shook it around in a mixture of ice and salt to make it super cold. The students also wrote each of the steps into a procedure text.

The ice-cream certainly looked delicious, as you can see from their photos.  We’ve included some student procedure writing detailing the steps of the ice-cream experiment, just in case you’re interested in trying out this experiment at home.
